Farro and White Bean Soup with Swiss Chard and Herb Oil

One of the most wonderful things ā€“ and when Iā€™m feeling pessimistic, one of the few wonderful things ā€“ about being an adult is getting to eat whatever you want, whenever you want to have it. No one is going to tell you to get your hand out of the candy drawer, or avoid that third cookie. No one is going to remind you to eat your fruits and vegetables and that, no, potatoes are not the same as leafy greens. You can make whatever choices you want to make, and until now I really was quite convinced I was making all the right ones.

Spaghetti with Meatballs

There are so many recipes out there to try, flavors to discover and techniques to master- exploring them never gets old. But I will admit that it does make sense to have a solid repertoire of well-loved dishes under your belt that taste like home and can reliably please a crowd. Banana bread, roast chicken and mashed potatoes are some of these foods. And so are meatballs.

Tomato and Almond Tart

I have managed to keep two very healthy and characterful cats alive for more than seven years, and with minimal issues (I mean, one tries to eat poisonous plants every chance he gets and the other had to get like 5 teeth removed last summer which miraculously solved some behavioral issues, but for a seven-year stretch that is PRETTY GOOD.) However, I am on the losing end of a lifelong struggle to grow plants, indoors or out.

Red Fish Stew

As you can likely imagine, I’ve eaten a lot of soup this summer. One could say it’s been the Summer of Soup- cold, cousins-of-gazpacho soups, hot soups eaten in front of air conditioners while sweat beads formed on my chin. All manner of soups running down my chin without my realizing it. I swore that as soon as my liquid diet came to an end, I would not even look at another soup for many, many months. Maybe years.
